Running a “business” is an endurance event

Randonneurring is a long distance cycling sport.

I participated in one last weekend, a ride of 200 Kilometers (124.27 miles) to be completed within 13.5 hours.

As with all initiatives, the start was enthusiastic. The first leg had the company of random riders, some known, and others new. And so it went till the mid-way point: different companions, gen chit-chat, unknown paths, tentative turns.

After the 75 km mark, it became a solo ride with each rider settling into a rhythm. The sun shined without mercy, Startup Endurancesucking every little drop. Severe head-winds working in tandem, slowing us down.

Slow, grueling, long; just the time for some questions to creep in.

Why did I sign up for this? This was supposed to be exciting. Should I continue, should I quit?

And you have plenty of time to think, in such a long ride – about life, goals and business ventures!

It all starts with excitement and energy. Everyone wants to be part of it. Somewhere along the way, things don’t pan out the way it was planned. Then come the downs, mood swings, loneliness and the killer “Self doubt”.

To proceed or to give up? Decisions to be made. Tough ones.

“I put my heart and soul in this venture/initiative. Should I give up now? Should I grit my teeth and carry on?”

Running a business venture is an endurance event: And needs to be approached as one!

For the long-haul. Onward and Upward.

I am an avid cyclist & randonneur. This was my sixth 200Km ride. It’s “always the same and always new” 🙂
